Thomas Tredwell (1743-1831) was a lawyer and politician from Plattsburg, New York. He served in the New York State Assembly from 1777 to 1783, the New York State Senate from 1786 to 1789, and represented New York in the United States House of Representatives from 1791 to 1795. Tredwell also served as a judge of the court of probate from 1778 to 1787, and surrogate of Suffolk County, New York from 1787 to 1791. Thomas Tredwell was born in Smithtown, Long Island, New York, on February 6, 1743, the son of Timothy Tredwell and Mary Platt. In 1764, Tredwell graduated from Princeton University; he was soon after admitted to the bar, and began the practice of law in Plattsburg, New York. From 1777 to 1783, he served as a representative in the New York State Assembly, and was elected to the New York State Senate from 1786-1789.
